Foxcatcher (2014, Bennett Miller)

I wanted to see this already when it was out in the cinemas, but didn't manage at that time. Now it has been on DVD for some time and we can see it when we feel like seeing it.
In general I don't like films about sport, but this is about humans who also are sports people.
John E. du Pont (Steve Carell - excellent) is interested in sponsoring wrestling. He wants to have the Schulz Brothers in his team. Mark (Channing Tatum - great) accepts the offer, while David (Mark Ruffalo - equally good) doesn't want to leave his family. John and Mark become pals. Later David also joins the team as leader and John feels that is some rivalry from his side. That is why he shoots Davis out of jealousy.
This is based on "true events", fortunately not  directly a biopic. The script concentrates on a rich, but lonely and to some degree mentally disturbed man. Once his mother rented a friend for him. In a way John tries to earn respect and friendship by supporting wrestlers. This can also be seen as revolt against his mother, a typical upper-class lady who despises wrestling as a vulgar sport.
A film about loneliness and despair and trying to become a member of a team.
8/10
